Melina Hernandez

Undergraduate Researcher

Melina is a dual-enrollment student at Texas A&M International University and Hector J. Garcia Early College High School. She is passionate about research aimed at helping others live healthier lives and enjoy life to the fullest. Having witnessed firsthand the impact that cancer can have on people, she hopes to improve the availability and effectiveness of cancer treatments, particularly in regions outside of the United States. Melina is also interested in researching neurodegenerative diseases and finding ways to enhance the quality of life for those affected by them. She strives to make research and other STEM careers more accessible to underrepresented groups, including women and people of color. In addition, she is an active member of her high school’s FTC robotics team, where she contributes as a human player and programmer, and she values the team’s ability to inspire interest and involvement in STEM.
